Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Knowledge
Essential competencies are diplomacy, problem solving, and superior interpersonal skills.
You will research the best Ombuds practices from across the country and develop and apply concepts, techniques, and standards based on conflict resolution principles and theories.
Communication
This role requires outstanding communication skills, including the ability to listen, de-escalate emotions, listen for and detect underlying concerns, remain neutral, and help develop a path forward. You will be expected to design and deliver trainings and conduct group facilitations.
Collaboration
Teamwork is essential to the success of our group. As such, you must have the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a group environment.
Education/Experience at Ombuds Specialist 3: This position requires a bachelor's degree and 8 years of high-level experience in and unique knowledge of conflict resolution, counseling, crisis response, or other closely relevant professions; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

You must have the proven ability to accomplish work independently, efficiently, and effectively without considerable direction. You will work under consultative direction of the Ombuds Manager toward predetermined long-range targets. Assignments are often self-initiated.

You will be expected to foster highly effective relationships. Your contacts will include, but not be limited to, employees; managers; subcontractors; federal, state and local agency representatives; business owners; technology transfer partners; and ombuds and mediation professionals from across the U.S. and internationally.

You will have experience successfully mentoring and providing constructive feedback to staff, demonstrating an enthusiasm to share skills and knowledge and invest in the professional development of others.
Knowledge of the Field
Certifications in arbitration, mediation, facilitation, and/or coaching, are desirable. You must be proficient in the International Ombuds Association Standards of Conduct and Code of Ethics. You should have experience authoring articles and/or doing presentations to national and international groups on Ombuds-related topics.
Education/Experience at Ombuds Specialist 4 level : This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of high-level experience and knowledge of conflict resolution, counseling, crisis response, or other closely relevant professions; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Relocation is required. The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
